GEORGIA 1990'S: TIPS ON SURVIVAL
'Dessert' - Aleksandre Koberidze
Take a little bit of sugar,
and after - skinny sticks,
(but not the matches).
no matter if it’s the gas or the firewood -
prepare the sweets called Mamalo*,
when the electricity is gone.
If you live alone - do it on your own;
If there are others who share your home
ask them too -
- and all together, everyday, before the lights are back - as to follow the
timetable,
everyday - to follow the timetable,
learn by heart a piece of poetry!
(if it’s a long one - stick to one verse).
and don’t forget to eat the sweets, while learning.
When the lights are back you have to stand -
and all together - no matter if it’s a son or a husband,
a mother or a grand-dad,
whoever comes at hand -
say it loud and with your heart -
tell it to the lights which are now back -
the piece of poetry you learned that night.
and after you live ten years like this,
those lights shall never go out.
