GEORGIA 1990'S: TIPS ON SURVIVAL
'War From my Window' - Koka Ramishvili
War From my Window is a documentary chronicles of the Tbilisi civil war.
Soon after the declaration of independence of the republic, the civil war started in Tbilisi. It ran through December 24, 1991 - January 6, 1992, covering twelve holy nights, including Christmas, the New Year’s Eve and the Baptism of Jesus.
At a distance, from the windows of his apartment, the artist observed and documented the war which was taking place in the city center. The artist did not try to express the drama of the war by depicting it in the style of a reportage, in fact, he created a different form. It is a meditation on a landscape, which conveys the eternal and the momentary. Here the landscape is shown as a metaphor to eternity and the smoke resembles the momentary. There is nothing national, regional, territorial or else, governmental that the series show; on the contrary only the same landscape is repeated and the twelve invisible days of war.
This is a constant meditation of twelve days. Photography has a connection to meditation. The artist dramatically and poetically uses this resource.
